Night Two

Come home instead of go to class to take a nap. Go to Bed Bath & Beyond. Syd makes dinner while Dee watches the Playoffs. It's a chilly night so we put a fire in the fireplace. We got some pillows and a blanket and laid down on the floor by the fire and cuddled up as we watched the Lakers play the Hornets. He was tickling my back and kissing my forehead, everything was perfect... UNTIL THE FIRE ALARM!!!
First of all, it was my mom's idea to have a cozy night in with a fire, so that's what we did! But did I think to check the flue? Psh of course not.
The fire was lit, the lights were off, curled up by a warm fire with my man...didn't happen to notice the entire top 2 floors were completely filled with smoke. Once we figured out the flue was closed, I flipped it...once again not really thinking that it had been by a fire for the past hour or so. YUP! Definitely burned my finger so I've got a nice blister now. And then we couldn't figure out how to turn the alarm off. We were running around trying to figure it out, opening doors and windows, turning on fans, I was waving a broom...but nothing was working. The poor dog wanted to get as far away as possible. I have never heard anything so noisy. Finally I figured it out and then it was just waiting for the smoke to clear out and dressing my wound. Dee took good care of me and he made sure all the doors were re-locked...side note, i am TERRIFIED of burglars so being home alone is NOT my favorite thing ever. Then I grabbed and ice pack to keep on my finger and we watched the rest of the game right back where we started.
Not quite as romantic and cutesy as last night. But it was certainly memorable!! Every day is a new adventure and I love every minute.

Everything I do..I'll be..amazed by you

Slow dancing in the basement next to the pool table, listening to random love songs from our phone. Looking into each other's eyes, wishing that moment could last forever. Smiling through the kisses, and his arms around me tight. Hearing sweet words, and knowing how much he loves me. Making wishes on 11:11. Being so completely in love and having that much fun with my best friend, I couldn't help but wish for it to be that way forever.

I love this boy. I am the luckiest girl in the world. It's moments like this that I will remember always.
"This is what love is."

...I am sorry this is super gaggy...

What love means...

Love is surely in the air because EVERYONE seems to be getting engaged or married. It's kind of crazy! So congrats to all those who are married, engaged (or will be soon!)...especially Melissa and Bryan!!
So! In honor of all the lovin' that's going on, I decided it would be fun to find out what love means to those who are most sweet and innocent...children. This is why I just love kids...

1. When my grandma got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandpa does it for her now all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love.  - Rebecca age 8

2. When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouths.  - Billy age 4

3. Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other.  - Kari age 5

4. Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your fries without making them give you any of theirs.  - Chrissy age 6  (this one is one of my favorites)

5. Love is what makes you smile when you're tired.  - Terri age 4 :)

6. Love is when mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK.  - Danny age 7

7. Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more. My mommy and my daddy are like that. They look gross when they kiss.  - Emily age 8

8. Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.       - Bobby age 7

9. If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate.  - Nikka age 6

10. Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it every day.  - Noelle age 7

11. Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well.  - Tommy age 6

12. During my piano recital, I was on stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me, and saw my daddy waving and smiling. He was the only one doing that. I wasn't scared anymore.  - Cindy age 8

14. Love is when mommy gives daddy the best piece of chicken.  - Elaine age 5

15. Love is when mommy sees daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford.  - Chris age 7

16. Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him along all day.  - Mary Ann age 4

17. When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you.  - Karen age 7
18. Love is when mommy sees daddy on the toilet and doesn't think it's gross.  - Mark age 6

19. You really shouldn't say "I LOVE YOU" unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget.  - Jessica age 8

20. A 4-year-old child whose next-door neighbor was an elderly man who had just lost his wife.  When the child saw the man cry, the little boy went over into the man's yard and climbed on top of the man's lap and just sat there. When the boy's mother asked him what he'd said to the neighbor, the little boys said, "Nothing, I just helped him cry."

21. Love is when a friend likes you and then he follows you. They could take a date."  - Holden age 7

22. I think love is a special thing that you want to be with them the whole time. I also think it means that you are nice and kind.  - Isabelle age 7

23. Love means to me I care about you. There are many types of love. Love means to me a heart is open for me. It also means romance. Also my dog and me are a good couple.  - Max age 7

24. To express what love means to me I'm going to tell you to go see this:
Love means a heart bursting, hiding, riding in the wind.
Daffodils give specs of yellow down to me.
Love means to cling upon something with all your heart.
The things I love: my mom, my dad.
When I love, my heart feels glad.
It gives me strength and warmth.
That's what love means to me.  - Jocelyn age 7

25. What love means to me is candy. I really like candy. My favorite kind of love is M&Ms. I want candy for Valentine's day. What love means to me is also Valentine's Day.  - Allan age 7
26. To me love means when you like something so much it makes it special to you. For example, let's say you love my necklace. I think it's special because I got it when I was born. That's what I think love means to me.  - Sophia age 7

What does love mean to you?? This is an important question. Because I think LOVE is something that is taken for granted much to often.

Love Don't Run

It's amazing how much can change in just a few days. I am so lucky to have an amazing friend in my life who listened, gave advice, mediated, and fixed everything! I don't know what I'm going to do without her all summer! Thank you for everything my dear!!
And...this song is pretty great.

Music is what feelings sound like

Music is the most amazing thing ever. There is always a song to fit each different mood, or help you express a feeling, or to help you cheer up. In the past 24 hours I have gone through pretty much every emotion...typical girl right? But music has definitely helped me through it.
It all started with John Mayer's Slow Dancing in a Burning Room. Everyone has probably felt like this at some point. Just sitting there, trying to act like nothing is wrong... while in reality it feels like the world is crumbling or "burning" around you. It's hard! Some things change and you can't help it no matter how hard you try. But change can be good. I always believed "if it's not broken, don't fix it" but that isn't true. Sometimes you have to break something in order to make it better. Why use something that only kind of works if you can fix it and make it even better? Feeling like your world is burning and you have no control sucks. But luckily these feelings typically only last a little while and then you can be reborn out of the ashes just like a Phoenix. yes that is definitely a Harry Potter reference.
Then came along Lady A with Need You Now. This song gets to me. Because everyone knows what it's like to miss someone. Whether it is an ex or not, there is always a time when you really miss a certain person. I heard this in the car on the way to work and it tugged at my heart strings. Missing someone is the worst. Because a lot of the time there isn't anything you can do about it at the exact moment that you start to miss them. You have to just sit and wait until the time finally comes when you can see each other. And I know this song is about being drunk and missing an ex, but the concept still applies to most people.
And the low point. What do you want by Jerrod Neimann. This song is about an ex as well, but if you take out that whole aspect of it, anyone can relate to it. Sometimes it's easy to get frazzled and overwhelmed and all you want to do is say, "WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME?!" It doesn't matter who it's to. Whether it's to the world, parents, a boyfriend, boss, teacher, coach, or even just a stranger who pushes your buttons. If I'm at the end of my rope, these are typically the last words said before I have pretty much given up. This phrase is vulnerable and exasperated and usually happens when you really just need an answer about what to do. Emotional rock bottom is the hardest place to be because it feels like you have no control over anything...but from there the only place to go is up.
Now the best song of them all. John Hiatt - Have a little faith in me. This song is amazing. If you haven't heard it. GO LISTEN NOW!!(It's in my little play list thing!)  This song could be about God or about a boyfriend. Either way you look at it, it is amazing. Because of my situation currently I'm going to go with both of these options because I have to have faith in God and faith in my relationship. My favorite line is "You see time, time is our friend cause for us there is no end. And all you gotta do, is have a little faith in me." Love is eternal. There isn't an end, so we just have to have faith that everything is going to work out how it is supposed to. But every action in life is based off of fear or love. Love is the driving force in my life. Maybe that's a cheesy girl thing to say but it is. Having faith in love and those around you who truly love and care about you is all a person can do. We need those people in our lives to lift us up when we do hit rock bottom. So have a little faith...in God, in love, in a person, or simply in yourself.

Domestically Challenged

Especially in Utah, moms are supposed to be the best cooks. Dinners, treats, after school snacks...they are supposed to do it all. My mom wasn't like this. I came from a family where my mom works all the time and my dad has always made dinner. So I never really learned how to do the whole "homemaker" thing. My poor future husband had better be ok with eating some experimental concoctions while I figure it all out. BUT oddly enough I love to bake when I'm stressed. Muffins and cupcakes in particular for some weird reason. I also have been trying to make dinners from scratch more...ok so we've only made one dinner...but it's a start!! Sometimes I like to try new things other than the typical cupcakes, cookies, poppy seed or blueberry muffins, brownies, etc.  So here are a few of my creative attempts:
Fluffer Oreo Cupcakes

These were sooooo good! I love Oreos and Marshmallows, so this was just combining them into one amazing cupcake. I wasn't able to put two oreos in mine though because this person used a Texas size muffin tin. And it was around Halloween so I used the oreos with the orange filling to make them more festive. They were delicious!!

Chicken Enchiladas
Dee and I get mexican way more than anyone should. So when we decided to make dinner, of course we went with chicken enchiladas. They were yummy! But I tweaked the recipe a little bit because we forgot to get stuff at the store, it was fine though. It was still a good dinner. They took forever though. Hopefully as I start cooking more, it goes faster...because it was a little ridiculous.

 Pistachio Muffins
These were good too!! And i promise I'm not just bias...well hopefully not. But I got the idea off of One Tree Hill oddly enough. And I LOVE pistachios so it sounded interesting! No one had even heard of the idea, so I had to try. They had a sweet and salty combo that was soooo yummy...but that's why I like kettle corn. These muffins were unique and different but turned out pretty well! Not so much a sweet dessertish thing, but more of just a snack.

Delicious Banana Pecan Bread
So on Saturday Abby and I decided that we were going to make banana bread using the brown bananas that were lying around.  I had never made banana bread before so we decided to try it out!  Half way through we decided to diverge from the recipe and add nuts. But the only nuts that they had were pecans (i'm pretty sure you're supposed to use walnuts or something) but it was all we had. And not only that but they were slightly past their "best if sold by" date...only by like 2 years! They tasted fine though. So Abby decided she was going to caramelize them. Had she done this before? Nope! It was just an adventure all around. The nuts got a little burt so we added water and brown sugar and made a sort of sauce along with them. We mixed it all together and threw it in the oven...then came the waiting. We waited and waited until finally it was done. And then we had to wait for it to cool, so of course we sat and watched the pan cool because we were so excited! But oh.my.goodness. it was the best banana bread ever! The nuts added a little somethin somethin and it was moist and just yummy! We were pretty proud of our baking adventure!

My next adventure is hopefully going to be Chai muffins. So we'll see how that goes. They'll probably end up on here.
But until then just chocolate chip cookies for my cute boyfriend. If anyone has good recipes that are fun, yummy, and maybe on the easier side just let me know!!
