The times they are a changin'

It's really weird to think how much my life is going to change over the next two weeks. I've gone through a huge change over the past two years, so I hope it wont be too much harder than that.
Tomorrow is pretty life changing in itself. I am going through the temple. Part of me never thought I'd actually make it, but here I am! Gettin' Gs and everythang :)
And then, in two weeks from right now basically, I am getting married to my best friend in the Salt Lake Temple to become Mrs. Sydney Evans for time and all eternity.
Everything in my life has led me to this point. And even though I am scared and nervous, I am also thrilled and excited and feeling very proud of myself for finally making it to this point. It hasn't been an easy road but it has been the most rewarding.
I love my life and my fiance and I cannot wait to see where life goes from here.

3 weeks!

So the stress of everything is really starting to hit me. The wedding is less than 21 days away and there are so many little details that have to get done.
- Taking Bridals/Groomals...and maybe getting a new photographer?
- Figuring out when I'm going through the Temple
- Finding wedding shoes
- Sending out the last minute invitations of people we forgot :(
- Planning and going to showers
- Writing Thank You cards
- Cleaning the house once the hooligans who currently reside there GET OUT
- Pack for the honeymoon
- Get last minute decorations
...There is probably MUCH more, I'm just too frazzled to think of it right now.

But in much happier news! Each day I am closer and closer to marrying my best friend for all ETERNITY. We have been spoiled with so many fun things from a couple showers, and there are still a few to come. So far all the wedding stuff has been easy and beautiful. Utah KILLED BYU!!! And if that wasn't enough, we got a sweet new car (in Utah red)!!

Juggling school, work, and planning a wedding is very challenging...but the end goal is in sight. I can't wait to be Sydney Evans. "I love this crazy, tragic, sometimes almost magic, awful, beautiful life."

Blessed

As of today our wedding is 5 weeks away...since we started wedding plans everything has just kind of fallen into place and everything is basically done. Except one Minor detail....we didn't have a place to live. Yup, we were going to be newly married and homeless. Ok maybe that's being slightly dramatic but still! It was stressful not knowing where we were going to land after the wedding. Until last night.
My family was all over for my brother's bday party and of course the topic of houses came up because we are kind of running out to time to find somewhere. And then my grandma said we should just live in her house and kick the guys who are living there out. There was NO way we could afford this. She charged them like $1300 a month or something like that and we are just a poor (almost) married couple. We told her this and she agreed to cut the price in half if we would agree to take care of the yard which had been terribly neglected by the renter boys. We gladly accepted!!!
So we are officially not homeless. Instead we have a 3 level, 6 bedroom, 3 bath home with a tennis court and firepit. She is going to give the guys a 30 day notice to get out of the house and then we will move in our stuff ASAP!!
I can't wait to call this place home...
even though it will always be "Granny's" in my memories

We are sooooo very blessed. It is amazing the blessings that come from living righteously and following the commandments even if it might be easier not to sometimes. We couldn't be happier and are just waiting for it to finally be Oct. 11!!!

1 month. 4 days. 23 hours. 41 minutes.

Week one

In the first week of being engaged we...:

  • Set and reserved the temple date. Twice.
  • Chose and reserved the reception center.
  • Picked colors and theme..ish.
  • Let everyone know we are engaged.
  • Talked about honeymoon options
  • Chose photographer.
  • Scheduled engagement photos.
  • Chose caterer and food.
  • Picked a cake person. Tasting will be this weekend.
  • Chose invitation person. Actual invites will be chosen this weekend too.
  • Made or are making the guest lists.
  • Looked at SO many apartments and haven't had much luck.
  • Spent hours looking at my ring.
  • Said "We're getting married!!" or "We're engaged" numerous times.
  • Gotten stressed out.
  • Seriously considered eloping.
  • Are still crazy in love and can't wait to actually be married.
From right this minute it's 1 month, 23 days, and 1 minute until we get sealed for time and all eternity...but who's counting right?

Who woulda thought...

WE ARE GETTING MARRIED!!!!
Yup it finally happened!! Never really thought it would come but it did on August 10, 2011. After over 3 years of ups and downs, I am finally engaged to my best friend!!!
He did a REALLY good job at making sure I didn't know anything was up...that's for dang sure. The evidence is apparent in how SUPER hot i look in my sweatshirt and very minimal makeup.
But I guess I should document what went down....so here it goes.
Last weekend I was in California for my cousin's wedding for 5 days!!!! It was the first time we had gone longer than a whole day seeing each other in a year. It was really hard but it DEFINITELY put everything into perspective and made us realize that we don't want to be apart again. When I got home everything on monday night it was absolute bliss. I surprised him at his hockey game and the feelings there were like none we had ever experienced. They were the kind of feelings we knew would last for an eternity.
But we went along our week. Looked at apartments, looked at rings, went to work, hung out...the usual. Tuesday night we went to Zupas for dinner and we decided that a picnic sometime soon would be fun. So I said "we should go tomorrow!" He agreed and that was that. That night i went home and got a text from him saying "Lets do the picnic at ledgemere." Ledgemere was where we met and we go up sometimes to roast marshmallows and have dinner. I was down, it sounded like fun!
Wednesday after work and apartment hunting. When we got home we were just hanging out and he said he got payed on Friday so we should go look at rings again so he could maybe propose the next week. I was so down but this time I also wanted to look for him because i'm quite determined to get him to wear a wedding ring...we'll see how that works out. Rings don't really happen with Evans men. But of course we ended up looking mostly at the pretty sparkley ones for me. I kept saying which ones i liked and didn't like and he just sat there. We were waiting for it to get a little bit darker before we headed up the canyon so we went to Smith's and got smores stuff, then as we were walking out I said we should grab a movie to watch after dinner, so we went and rented The Unknown (which I have yet to see). We went back to his house so we could go to the bathroom before we went up to Ledgemere...the bathrooms up there are gross. And when it was finally felt late enough we got our Cafe Rio complete with Apple Beers and headed up the canyon.
We got up to the picnic sight and went to the one we met at. He said, "Isn't that the one?" I told him I thought it was and "luckily" it was available! So we sat down and ate and just relaxed. It was beautiful and just peaceful. He kept talking about how much he loved me and about how far we have come since the night we met but nothing was too far out of the ordinary so i didn't expect anything.
After all going on a picnic that day had been my idea!! He'd been quiet all day but he said it was just because we hadn't eaten and his stomach hurt. This happens regularly because that dang boy needs to eat all the time so I wasn't surprised. We built our fire and it seemed to take a million years for it to get dark but it did around 9:15pm...sunset was supposed to be at 8:30.
Earlier in the day I'd talked about dancing later. We tend to slow dance at random times whenever we feel like it...it's kind of our thing and i love it!! So he asked me if i wanted to dance. We put on our song, put it in my sweatshirt pocket, and played it over and over as we danced. He kept telling me how much he loved me and how he couldn't wait to get paid on Friday and he couldn't wait to buy me a ring. I have been wearing a ring he made me out of string since June and he asked what I would do if he just proposed with that. I told him it did not matter to me at all what the ring looked like. He said "So if i got down on one knee right now and proposed with that, you'd be okay with it?" When I said yes, he told me to give the ring to him. We exchanged a few "Are you serious?" back and forth and then I handed it to him...(This is when he started to shake). He got down on one knee, pulled the real ring from his pocket and said, "Sydney I love you will you marry me?"   I was completely in shock!! I gave him a big kiss and then realized that I should probably respond...so I said "of course" and kissed him again. There were lights flashing but we didn't even notice until he had stood up and we were hugging. Abby and her friend had been camping out forever waiting to take pictures. They had saved the campsite for us and were there for 3 hours. Such troopers! Dressed from head to toe in black so not to be seen. So funny. But I'm a huge cry baby and was kind of a mess through all this. Crying with the BIGGEST smile on my face. I don't know if I've ever been that happy. We got composed and decided we should probably talk to our parents considering it was around 10:30 at this point. But we had a raging fire going that we couldn't just leave! So what did my amazing eagle scout fiance? He peed on the fire. Haha it was hilarious. The perfect end to the evening. We have too much fun.
We went to my parents house and showed them the ring and got lots of hugs. They had been in cahoots with Dee for quite a while about all this so they weren't nearly as surprised as I was. We texted and talked to lots of friends and family and then went to see his parents who knew as well. Seems like I was the only one who was out of the loop!
It was an amazing night and I'm such a lucky girl to have such a sweet man that I cannot wait to marry!!! He chose my beautiful ring all by himself and he had me totally surprised...it was perfect. Now all the wedding craziness starts because we only have 2 months from engagement to wedding.
I am crazy in love with and can't wait to marry my best friend. We are ready for it all to be over and finally be Mr. and Mrs. Dee Evans!!

18 days...

18 days is all that stands between me and many others from starting yet another semester of school. Where did summer go?! Granted it has been a fun one...but it went by WAY too fast!!

My schedule for next semester is going to be work 8:30-1, then class right after until 7 or 8pm depending on the day. Except for Wednesday when I get to work until 7pm instead of going to school! Awesome life? Oh yeah. Not getting home until 8ish every night after having school and work all day is going to be a dream come true.
And I went to check my schedule again but they made me change my password last week. Do i remember what it was changed to? NOPE! Do I remember the answers to the secret questions? NOPE!!
School is already killing my soul and it hasn't even started yet.

Weekend Getaway

.Yellowstone Ranch.
A beautiful and peaceful place in the middle of the mountains.
Surrounded by amazing (boyfriend's) family and friends.
Riding horses all day.
Eating, talking, and relaxing all night.
Weekend went by way too fast.
Sore from riding, lots of scrapes and bruises.
Loved every second.
Cannot wait to go back!!!

Paradise

So I guess this is probably the real reason for a blog...
WE WENT TO HAWAII!!!
Yes I have finally been to the tropical island that has taunted me for oh so many years. To make things even better I got to go with my sweet boyfriend and his family. SO MUCH FUN!!
Things we did:
Jump off Kipu Falls, SCUBA dive, snorkel, boogie board, hike, shop, drive to pretty tourist spots, walk on the beach, play in the ocean, watch the sunsets, watch fireworks, play in the sand, swim in the pools, hot tub, watch surfers, oh and I can't forget eat and eat.

First sunset :)

Love him

After diving with sharks and turtles and lots of cool fishies :)

Watching fireworks

LAST SUNSET :(

On top of Shipwreck rock

I had to get the footprints...

After snorkeling

Just a typical photo op :)
These are just a few of my favorite pics. I loved every minute!! Vacations should be mandatory every 6 months at least and be paid in full by everyone's employers. Wouldn't that be the life! Oh well. It was amazing and I'm so glad i got to go with him :)

If only life were like the movies...

I love quotes. And I love movies. So here are cute movie quotes...just cuz I'm a super sap.

The Notebook -
Duke: They didn't agree on much. In fact they rarely agreed on anything. They fought all the time and they challenged each other everyday...But in spite their differences, they had one important thing in common, they were crazy about each other.

Allie: Now say you're a bird.
Noah: If you're a bird, I'm a bird.

Noah: Would you just stay with me?
Allie: Stay with you? What for? Look at us, we're already fightin'

Noah: Well that's what we do, we fight... You tell me when I am being an arrogant son of a bitch and I tell you when you are a pain in the ass. Which you are, 99% of the time. I'm not afraid to hurt your feelings. You have like a 2 second rebound rate, then you're back doing the next pain-in-the-ass thing.
Allie: So what?
Noah: So it's not gonna be easy. It's gonna be really hard. We're gonna have to work at this every day, but I want to do that because I want you. I want all of you, for ever, you and me, every day. Will you do something for me, please? Just picture your life for me? 30 years from now, 40 years from now? What's it look like? If it's with him, go. Go! I lost you once, I think I can do it again. If I thought that's what you really wanted. But don't you take the easy way out.

The best love is the kind that awakens the soul; that makes us reach for more, that plants the fire in our hearts and brings peace to our minds. That is what I hope to give to you forever.

Charly -
Charly: The ride is not over yet. I will save your place in line. I love you.

Charly: I've been discussing the whole thing with God. We're very close now, He and I.
Sam: Oh really?
Charly: I said, "Father, Sam's being a jerk."
Sam: And?
Charly: He agreed with me, of course.
Sam: Of course
Charly: I told Him how you'd broken my heart. He understood about that. "But," I said, "I still love him."
Sam: What did He say?
Charly: He said I was probably glutton for punishment, but I suppose I've always known that.
Sam: I love you.
Charly: You'd better.

The Wedding Date-
Nick Mercer: The hardest thing is loving someone and having the courage to let them love you back.

Nick Mercer: I'd rather fight with you, than make love with anyone else.

When Harry Met Sally-
I love that you get cold when it is 71 degrees out. I love that it take you an hour and a half to order a sandwich. I love that you get a little crinkle in your nose when you're looking at me like I'm nuts. I love that after I spend a day with you, I can still smell your perfume on my clothes. And I love that you are the last person I want to talk to before I go to sleep at night. And it's not because I'm lonely, and it's not because it's New Year's Eve. I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.

Runaway Bride-
Look, I guarantee there'll be tough times. I guarantee that at some time, on or both of us is gonna want to get out of this thing. But I also guarantee that if I don't ask you to be mind, I'll regret it for the rest of my life, because I know, in my heart, you're the only one for me.

Moulin Rouge-
The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return.

Good Will Hunting-
It doesn't matter if the guy is perfect or the girl is perfect, as long as they are perfect for each other.

Meet Joe Black-
Love is passion, obsession, someone you can't live without. If you don't start with that, what are you going to end up with? Fall head over heels. I say find someone you can love like crazy and who'll love you the same way back. And how do you find him? Forget your head and listen to your hear. I'm not hearing any heart. Run the risk, if you get hurt, you'll come back. Because, the truth is there is no sense living your life without this. To make the journey and not fall deeply in love - well, you haven't lived a life at all. You have to try. Because if you haven't tried, you haven't lived.

Take love, multiply it by infinity and take it to the depths of forever...and you still have only a glimpse of how I feel about you.

The Princess Bride-
Death cannot stop true love. All it can do is delay it for a while.

I'll probably add more on to this as i remember them...but it's a start.

      Just another day...

      Today I got a husband. Well...kinda.
This is a conversation between me and 3-year-old Joshua today at work.

Joshua: This one is for you, and this one is for your husband (handing me two plastic cups for pretend drinks).
Me: Aww thanks! But I don't have a husband.
Joshua: Why don't you have a husband?
      Me: Ummm I don't know.
Joshua: Oh. Okay, I'll be your pretend husband.

Kids are just the cutest things. They say the funniest stuff...and have no filters at all. I love it.
This was just one of the many moments that make me not hate my job.

      This makes me smile

I don't know if it's because I have an obsession with little children (not in a creeper way)... but I love this video!! It's adorable! But the boys in my life did not agree. Therefore it had to go on here!!
He's just too cute! Hopefully this made anyone watching smile!!
      Have a great weekend!!!!

      Tuesday, May 31, 2011

      Good weekend.

Memorial Day weekend signifies the beginning of summer...Utah just didn't seem to get the memo. But regardless of the chilly rainy weather, it was a great weekend. So as a blogger, naturally i have to write it down.
Friday: I got off work, took a nap and just hung out at home until 6. Then Dee came and picked me up so we could go to Ledgemere for a campfire and dinner with my crazy family. It was cold and kinda rainy but it was fun to go to the place where Dee and I met and spend some time with the fam. After that we went down to Provo for a double date with Tom. I have wanted to go to Color Me Mine forever so finally I got my wish. The girls made things for the guys and the guys made them for the girls. It was pretty fun! We didn't talk much though because everyone was so focused on their projects. After painting we went and got malts at the Malt Shoppe down there. It was packed! And it was super weird to be in Provo on the infamous "date night"...whoa. Then it was getting late so we headed home and went to bed.
Saturday: I had to work at 9 (yuck) but only for a few hours. We were thinking about going to the Ranch but that didn't end up happening because of the weather. Dee's bday was Sunday so we went out to dinner with his sister, parents, grandparents, aunt on his mom's side to Morelia. He loves this place...i'll admit it is pretty good. After a yummy dinner we went to his grandparents house for DELICIOUS mudpie and just hung out for a while. It was really fun actually! Then to make out Saturday night even crazier we went bowling with his parents. Dave beat us all but it's okay because it was the most entertaining night of bowling ever. I wouldn't have rather be anywhere else. Midnight marked Dee's official birthday so I gave him his presents as soon as we got home. I guess giving gifts at midnight has kind of turned into a tradition...we'll see how long it lasts. I was really nervous about his gifts because boys are SOOOO hard to shop for!! But i ended up getting him a pretty sweet Ohio State hat and making a box for all of my notes he has saved (I'm a note writer). He seemed to really like them...PHEW!
Sunday: Ugh i woke up to my mom taking my car away. On Dee's birthday. Perfect. I was super pissed but was trying to not let it ruin my day. I went to church and that made everything better. When I got home my mom had changed her tune and everything was okay. Dinner was at 5:30 so I went over to Dee's at 5. And after dinner what did we have? MUDPIE!! Haha. It was very laid back. I love being with him and his family. Then we went over to his Grandma and Grandpa Evans's house for MORE mudpie! Pretty sure i gained like 10 pounds this weekend. We all just sat and talked. Sundays there are the best! But sadly a few of my favorite people were missing!! That's okay though cuz I'll see them Tuesday for Dee's cute cousin's wedding shower!!!!!! After Grandma Evans we went home, but on sweats, and watched Heroes until it was time for me to leave. It was just a relaxing and perfect Sunday evening. I loved every minute, but i think the best part was cuddling up on the couch and just being with Dee on his birthday.
Monday: NO WORK!!!! Holla!! Oh my gosh it was so nice to have today off. I woke up to my mom saying "Let's go get a pedicure." Don't have to tell me twice! After that I met up with Dee and Sean at Rio. We hadn't been there in forever...it had easily been over a week. Then it was off to the mall. Dee had some birthday money to spend and I was in need of a wedding shower gift. Going shopping with two guys is so different from shopping with girls. I love it because shopping is definitely not a favorite past time of mine. We just hung out at Sean's, ate and ate and ate, went to Tom's to watch Zoolander. And then, now at 1 am I am finishing my blog before bedtime. Did I mention it was three years ago today that i met Dee? Crazy how time flies and how much has happened and changed between us...but everything happens for a reason and right now I couldn't love him more.
Tomorrow I go back to work for a lovely double shift but after that I get to go to the wedding shower!! Woohoo :)
Overall, it was a pretty relaxing and family filled weekend (even if it wasn't my family for the most part). But that is how a long weekend is supposed to be :) Sooo yup! That is all! Sorry it's a novel once again.

      Thank you to...

Facebook for making it easy to creep on random people's engagement and wedding pictures... which I do quite frequently.
                                 I just love them.
                                                           It's a problem.

      NO BUENO

So. Just in case anyone wants to know a few terribles in my life today...here they are.

Buying swim suits online. Yup, i was SUPER stoked on this idea because they were adorable and cheap!  But then, bam! My dreams were crushed when they finally got here and all the tops were too small.

Periods. Cramps. Being moody and overly emotional. Feeling HUGE. Did I mention cramps?

Trying on suits that are too small WHILE experiencing the above...it makes getting excited for summer trips a little bit more difficult.

No hugs. Hugs and kisses fix everything. But after working from 8:30-6:30...I must continue to wait because of stupid basketball. It's only stupid today though, most days i really love watching Dee and the guys play.

Not having a single can of Dr. Pepper at my house. This is going to change the second i get in my car to go get a much needed sweaty hug because of previously mentioned basketball. And this is all because I am having a long, emotional, period induced drama day and need both of these things.

Some days it is just hard to be a girl. That is all.

      Tuesday, May 3, 2011

      Countdowns

10 hours until my two 6 page papers are turned in...hopefully I still have a little bit of a soul left.
18 hours until one of my favorite people leaves for the WHOLE summer to go and be awesome in Africa...I'm gonna miss her so much.
48 hours until I am done with my final and it's officially SUMMER!! Even if the weather doesn't agree with me.
25 days until the boy's birthday!! I kinda like him...even if boys are the hardest thing in the world to shop for!
38 days until finally SUNSHINE in Lake Powell with the fam.
50 days until my best friend has been on her mission for a whole year!!! LOVE YOU RASS!
59 days until HAWAII!!!!! Oh my gosh so excited. I've never been and it's going to be with Dee! Could I ask for anything better? Not so much :)

And also in there are fun weddings and lots of other adventures. But those are the big ones. Hopefully I make it!!

Just keep swimming, just keep swimming....

      Night Two

Come home instead of go to class to take a nap. Go to Bed Bath & Beyond. Syd makes dinner while Dee watches the Playoffs. It's a chilly night so we put a fire in the fireplace. We got some pillows and a blanket and laid down on the floor by the fire and cuddled up as we watched the Lakers play the Hornets. He was tickling my back and kissing my forehead, everything was perfect... UNTIL THE FIRE ALARM!!!
First of all, it was my mom's idea to have a cozy night in with a fire, so that's what we did! But did I think to check the flue? Psh of course not.
The fire was lit, the lights were off, curled up by a warm fire with my man...didn't happen to notice the entire top 2 floors were completely filled with smoke. Once we figured out the flue was closed, I flipped it...once again not really thinking that it had been by a fire for the past hour or so. YUP! Definitely burned my finger so I've got a nice blister now. And then we couldn't figure out how to turn the alarm off. We were running around trying to figure it out, opening doors and windows, turning on fans, I was waving a broom...but nothing was working. The poor dog wanted to get as far away as possible. I have never heard anything so noisy. Finally I figured it out and then it was just waiting for the smoke to clear out and dressing my wound. Dee took good care of me and he made sure all the doors were re-locked...side note, i am TERRIFIED of burglars so being home alone is NOT my favorite thing ever. Then I grabbed and ice pack to keep on my finger and we watched the rest of the game right back where we started.
Not quite as romantic and cutesy as last night. But it was certainly memorable!! Every day is a new adventure and I love every minute.

      Everything I do..I'll be..amazed by you

Slow dancing in the basement next to the pool table, listening to random love songs from our phone. Looking into each other's eyes, wishing that moment could last forever. Smiling through the kisses, and his arms around me tight. Hearing sweet words, and knowing how much he loves me. Making wishes on 11:11. Being so completely in love and having that much fun with my best friend, I couldn't help but wish for it to be that way forever.

I love this boy. I am the luckiest girl in the world. It's moments like this that I will remember always.
      "This is what love is."

...I am sorry this is super gaggy...

      What love means...

Love is surely in the air because EVERYONE seems to be getting engaged or married. It's kind of crazy! So congrats to all those who are married, engaged (or will be soon!)...especially Melissa and Bryan!!
So! In honor of all the lovin' that's going on, I decided it would be fun to find out what love means to those who are most sweet and innocent...children. This is why I just love kids...

      1. When my grandma got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandpa does it for her now all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love.  - Rebecca age 8

      2. When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouths.  - Billy age 4

      3. Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other.  - Kari age 5

      Love Don't Run

It's amazing how much can change in just a few days. I am so lucky to have an amazing friend in my life who listened, gave advice, mediated, and fixed everything! I don't know what I'm going to do without her all summer! Thank you for everything my dear!!
      And...this song is pretty great.
